Description

A total of 751 beach seines and 22 fyke net sets were completed throughout the estuary and at the Qwuloolt Restoration Site by the Tulalip Tribes with a total of 1,130 beach seine conducted by Tulalip and its monitoring partners (Snohomish County = 324 & NOAA NWFSC = 55) in the estuary. Monitoring in the estuary is categorized into two different sampling bins, Estuary System-wide, and Qwuloolt Monitoring. 534 beach seine samples were taken across the estuary as part of the Estuary System-wide effort and 239 beach seine samples and 22 fyke net samples were taken at Qwuloolt Restoration reference sites that are part of the Qwuloolt Restoration project monitoring effort. All monitoring data has been entered into a database and been QA/QC by NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center staff, no PCSRF funds were used for data QA/QC or data analysis. The amount of monitoring effort was similar to the 2018 effort except for fyke netting. Fewer fyke netting sampling events occurred due to snow complicating our ability to start the sampling season. We expended all of the estuary PCSRF sampling funds in 2019. The project was completed January 15, 2020.

Project Benefit

The purpose of the project is to monitor the effects of restoration efforts in the Snohomish River Estuary and at the Qwuloolt restoration site to inform future restoration efforts, assess success of restoration efforts, and provide information to implement adaptive management on the restoration site over time.
