Description

The actual description is the same as the proposed project description. The Karuk Tribe operated two outmigrant traps, one was located in the lower Salmon River and the other trap was located in the mainstem Klamath River near Big Bar. The Salmon River Restoration Council (SRRC) cooperated by providing labor for trap operations during the weekends during the trapping period therefor the Karuk Tribe worked in cooperation with SRRC during the trapping season operating the rotary traps seven days per week. Trapping operations began in March and continued into July. The Big Bar trap site was not operated after July due to poor water quality conditions in the Klamath River. The Salmon River trap was operated from March until October when the trap was pulled with the onset of high flows.

Project Benefit

The project benefits salmon management in the Klamath River as a component to the juvenile out migrant monitoring network. Both trapping site serve as juvenile out-migrant monitoring locations where juvenile fish are counted and biometric data is collected regarding fish species present, condition, size, hatchery origin and migration timing. Trapping site are used to collect samples as needs for fisheries management.
