Description

The project funded the first steps in project design including hydraulic modeling for the three mile reach of the Scott River and preliminary designs for reach scale habitat restoration and individual off channel pond project design. The project supported project design team efforts including meetings, reviewing plans, models and field reviews.

Project Benefit

The project is a large scale habitat improvement projects located in the Scott River watershed and will benefit salmon habitat restoration planning. The project supports engineering and design work that looks at a large reach of the Scott River located in Scott Valley and specifically funds the initial planning steps including hydraulic modeling effort for the project reach in which is the basis of designing floodplain habitat projects inside the reach. The project will be assessing approximately 3 miles of river located in the low gradient valley reach surrounded by agricultural lands. The overall project goal is to develop habitat improvement design alternatives for the entire 3 mile reach, but will start with focusing on ½ mile sub reaches and opportunities to construct off channel habitat projects (ie off channel ponds) to keep the project scope affordable given there is limited funding to do this type of work. This project will assist with completing 65% level of final design for the first ½ mile sub reach and then work upstream as funding allows.
