Description

The ninth concrete low-flow (Arizona) crossing and degraded culvert on South Refugio Road, Santa Barbara County, was replaced with a 60-foot bottomless-arched culvert so that Quiota Creek has un-obstructed streamflow. The project also included the installation of two at grade rock weirs below the bridge to simulate natural stream geometry in this reach. Additionally, 16 coast live oaks (6 extra), 30 sycamores, and 5 Laurel bays were planted as mitigation for the five trees removed. Willow stakes and hydromulch were added to replace emergent vegetation.

Project Benefit

Replacing the culvert with a bridge will provide access to 2.73 miles of salmonid habitat.
