Description

Conducted key assessments to understand essential aspects of coho salmon populations and life history through a variety of duties including but not limited to spawning surveys, snorkel surveys, seining surveys, passive integrated transponder tagging, dual-frequency identification sonar monitoring, out- migrant trap operation, estuary/coastal monitoring, California Rapid Assessment Method assessments, restoration project monitoring, habitat assessment, and data entry and analysis. Supported the Department and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Monitoring Program by surveying the abundance, spatial structure, and diversity of coho, Chinook, and steelhead populations. Educated 1,846 students in the Wonders of Watersheds curriculum. Provided outreach presentations and educational opportunities to 12,898 community members, natural resource professionals, and students. Educated 1,846 students in the WOW! education series and increased 1,375 students’ knowledge of environmental stewardship and or environmentally-conscious practices due to receive the WOW! education series; Completed and distributed 195 outreach/education documents including; 9 posters at the Salmonid Restoration Federation Conference, 90+ (2 post/week) social media postings by Team Leaders, 48 Tributary Tribune submissions, 48+ WAP fliers, etc.; Prepare 11 interpretive signs; Displayed exhibits, posters, and signs in 3 different locations. Engaged 1,690 community volunteer in 11,584 hours of watershed restoration project implementation; Engaged 1,690 community volunteers in hands-on watershed restoration and protection projects through Watershed Awareness Projects (WAPs); Solicit $7,311 in donations for restoration activities as a result of this project. Engaged 48 members in workshops and trainings; Train WSP members through 60+ site-specific workshops/training events in total; Increase 94% of WSP Members’ skills by 25% (as measured by mid- and end-of-term performance evaluations).

Project Benefit

Engage 50 Members throughout coastal California to enhance anadromous watersheds through restoration and protection, community education and outreach events, recruiting volunteers for hands-on restoration projects, and professional development.
