Description

Removal of the Lower Eklutna River Dam was completed in August 2018, restoring access to 11.3 miles of salmon habitat. The project was completed earlier than expected.

Project Benefit

The principal conservation outcomes that will result from removing the Lower Eklutna River Dam are elimination of a significant fish passage barrier blocking 11.3 km of salmon habitat, reestablishment of natural river functions in the lower Eklutna River, reestablishment of habitat connectivity for fish and wildlife on the lower Eklutna River, and improved spawning habitat in the lower Eklutna River for five species of salmon.
