Description
This project provides updated information about the subsistence harvests of salmon by the communities of King Salmon, Naknek, and South Naknek, Alaska. The results are presented in a report that details the results of a household survey administered for the study years of 2017 and 2018 and information from in-depth interviews conducted with key respondents and during participant observation fishing trips.
Project Benefit
This project will improve documentation of subsistence harvest that is essential for salmon managers to provide reasonable opportunities for subsistence harvests in the future. In addition, understanding trends of subsistence salmon harvest in the Naknek River and District fishery, including factors influencing participation in the fishery and harvest levels, will be critical in addressing adaptations of subsistence use in response to economic, environmental, and regulatory changes.
