Description

Between 2017 and 2020, ADF&G Habitat Section crews surveyed about 1,000 streams for the presence of salmon in Southeast Alaska previously identified and prioritized by ADF&G staff. In total, this project resulted in 527 nominations to the Anadromous Waters Catalog, protecting 127 km of new streams.

Project Benefit

As described in the Anadromous Fish Act, an accurate AWC is the State’s tool to identify, protect, and manage salmon and steelhead spawning, incubation, rearing, overwintering, and migration habitats. This tool is used during fish habitat permitting to prevent, minimize, and mitigate human-induced perturbations.
