Description

Conceptual through final designs were prepared to improve fish passage and rearing habitat in Strawberry Creek. The design addresses 1400 feet of Strawberry Creek and 21 acres of pond and wetland area formed by a historic meander scar of Redwood Creek.

Project Benefit

The developed restoration plans will restore Coho access to the area, result in the removal and/or control of invasive grasses, improve summer and winter habitat and water quality, restore riparian area, and create in-channel and off-channel habitat complexity with off-channel features and using large wood.

Description and scope of the plan implemented
The proposed project will address the above task by developing conceptual through final design plans that address 1,400 feet of Strawberry Creek and 21 acres of pond and wetland located between Phases 1 and 2. This highly complex area consists of wetland and two large large pond formed by a historical meander scar of Redwood Creek. Much of the area has become completely covered with invasive grasses, which block fish passage, create low dissolved oxygen conditions, and obstruct a large area of open water that could be used as off-channel habitat for salmonids. The developed restoration plans will restore fish access to the area, result in the removal and/or control of invasive grasses, improve summer and winter habitat and water quality, restore riparian area, and create in-channel and off-channel habitat complexity with off-channel features and using large wood.
