Description

Juvenile coho occupancy data was collected and summarized in final project report. Coho juveniles were found in the mainstem Mattole and a few tributaries. Coho were not as widely distributed as in past surveys, but they were found in higher densitities in areas where they found in 2015. Low flows in tributary streams due to drought conditions were considered a likely factor governing the observed distribution. Reaches where coho were found had significantly more large wood, deeper pools and overhead cover as compared to reaches where no coho were founds.This project conducts monitoring for the fiscal year 14/15.

Project Benefit

The methodology in this project can also be used to determine watershed-wide distribution of coho with much greater confidence than previous efforts since sample selection is GRTS-based.
