Description
This project initially incorporated removal of 2 low flow concrete crossings in close proximity but on separate properties; the Crossing 0B property owner initially was cooperative but changed their minds at the last minute pulling out of the project and prohibited any restoration effort on their property. At that point and after lengthy discussions with the CDFW-FRGP Grant Manager, all project funds and efforts went to completing to the Crossing 0A Project where landowner cooperation was fully given. All further project details refer only to the restoration effort at Crossing 0A. The Quiota Creek Crossing 0A Project replaced an existing concrete low-flow (Arizona) crossing and degraded culvert with a 55-foot bottomless-arched culvert. Engineered Streambed Material was placed in the stream channel and configured to simulate natural stream geometry. A single lane hot-mix asphalt road surface was constructed over the top of the bottomless-arched culvert connecting the existing road surface below and above the project area; exposed concrete of the bridge system was given an anti-graffiti treatment. Construction work occurred within the boundary of the designated project area including all grading, excavation, filling, stockpiling, and equipment access. The project was completed as scheduled and approved. The road, bridge hand rails, final site grading and hydro-mulching/seeding were completed by 12/15/16 at which point the project was officially completed. Project completed under budget.
Project Benefit
Removal of these barriers will provide access to high quality spawning and rearing habitat in the upper Quiota Creek.
