Description
The Upper Salmon Basin Evaluation Tool (Tool) has been completed and is now available to provide a quantitative project score to supplement the current qualitative ranking process used by the Salmon Basin Watershed Program’s Technical team. The Tool has been successfully deployed and is available on the Idaho State server at www.fishtool.species.idaho.gov. Final improvements such as increased map and assessment unit functions, question clarifications, and a new user interface have been released. This Tool will be used to compile potential and completed project data into an efficient, easy to use, and interactive web-based evaluation tool and will help track completed and ongoing projects. Project entry into the tool will be mandatory prior to a USBWP Technical Team member proposing a project to the Tech Team. The Tool will be utilized for implementation as directed by the 2013 draft Recovery Plan for salmon and steelhead, specifically Section 5 Regional Limiting Factors and Recovery Strategies 5.1 Tributary Habitat, Section 6 Snake River Spring/summer Chinook Salmon Recovery Analysis, and Section 7 Snake River Steelhead Recovery Analysis. Prioritized projects will also implement actions identified in the Salmon Subbasin Management Plan adopted by the NPCC into their Fish and Wildlife Program in 2004.Project will be prioritized by the TOOL for implementations as directed by the 2013 draft Recovery Plan for salmon and steelhead.
Project Benefit
The outcome of this project will be a ready-to-use, permanently housed interactive web-based evaluation tool to assist project planners to prioritize projects for implementation. Project planners in the Upper Salmon Basin will be able to make better, more informed decisions regarding project prioritization that will lead to implementation actions that will best address factors limiting the production of ESA-listed salmon and steelhead as directed by the draft Recovery Plan for Idaho Snake River Spring/Summer Chinook and Steelhead Populations in the Snake River Spring/Summer Chinook Salmon Evolutionary Significant Unit and Snake River Steelhead Distinct Population Segment, 2011 and the Salmon Subbasin Management Plan (In, Northwest Power and Conservation Councils Columbia River Basin Fish and Wildlife Program.
