Description
PCSRF funds were used to remove the most upstream barrier culvert of five barrier culverts on Mountain View Drainage, a spring-fed stream supporting chum, pink, and coho salmon in Gustavus, Alaska. The culvert crossing was replaced with a bridge in August 2015 allowing for the restoration of natural channel morphology as well as natural flow, debris, and sediment conveyance. Fish now have unimpeded access under the crossing to 4.8 km of high quality spawning, rearing, and overwintering habitat upstream of the project site. Four downstream culverts have also been replaced with bridges using non-PCSRF funding.
Project Benefit
This project will remove five barrier culverts that block or impede access to 4.8 km of spawning and rearing habitat for coho and pink salmon. With replacement of all five barriers, juvenile and adult salmon will have unimpeded access to the entire Mountain Meadow Drainage. Accomplishments
