Description

The project enhanced adult steelhead spawning and juvenile steelhead rearing habitat downstream of Los Padres Dam, by placing 1,500 tons imported gravel downstream of the dam. The goal was to increase the amount of available spawning and rearing habitat by approximately 50% up to five miles downstream of the dam, in the mainstem Carmel River between the Los Padres Dam and San Clemente Dam (now reroute channel). This was accomplished by purchasing gravel and delivering it to the site in the Carmel River downstream of Los Padres Dam. Surveys to monitor gravel dispersal and biological conditions were conducted annually.
