Description

Potlatch Corporation officials notified Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) in July, 2014, that they did not wish to complete the restoration project. IDFG personnel from the headquarters office contacted Potlatch officials shortly after to determine if there were any options for the project to move forward. A conference call was arranged and several IDFG and Potlatch officials participated. Potlatch officials agreed to take a second look at the restoration project to determine if there were options for the project to move forward. Potlatch determined that the project may hinder their ability to sell the property; therefore they did not want IDFG to implement the project. In August, IDFG was notified that the property had a buyer and that the restoration project needed to be discussed with the new owner.

In December, 2014, the new owner of Shea Meadows informed IDFG personnel that they would not be interested in continuing with the restoration efforts.

This project has been withdrawn.

Although the project has been withdrawn, actions completed on the project included 90% completion of the final design, permitting, and bidding of the project and pre-project (baseline) monitoring aka water quantity monitoring.. Funds were expended for the actions completed, but performance measures were not completed.

Project Benefit

The expected outcomes of the proposed action includes: An increase in base flow, reduction in stream temperature and sedimentation, reduction in high spring runoff and flashiness, reestablishment of channel and floodplain connection, reestablishment of riparian, upland and wetland vegetation, all of which will provide suitable habitat for ESA listed steelhead spawning and rearing.
