Description

On 8/10/15, a request was made to NOAA to revise this project from its original scope. The original scope was to implement instream restoration in two miles of Elk Creek. The scope of the project was revised due to the increased cost of a bridge removal and replacement project on Elk Creek. The decision was made to prioritize the bridge project and therefore re-allocate funds. The revised scope of the Elk Creek Cooperative Salmon Habitat Project Phase III-Planning was implemented as outlined in the proposed description and consisted of engineering and design work to replace a bridge to reconnect floodplain processes. Project work included producing a bridge design and engineering plan to 60% completion as well as continued project management and oversight by the Elk Creek Project Coordinator and Tribal Fish biologist. This project ties in with Elk Creek Phase IV and V projects as well.

Project Benefit

The Elk Creek Cooperative Project addresses the need for habitat complexity fro recovery of Oregon Coastal Coho in the short-term though the replacement of a bridge to reconnect floodplain processes.

Description and scope of the plan implemented
The Stout et al. document notes that habitat complexity, including side channel and over-wintering habitat is lacking for coho salmon. This project addressed both of those issues through design work for side channel connection and overwintering habitat.
