Improve water quantity and survival of the willow baffles and the native plants planted as part of the original Ventura River Streambank Restoration Project. The original project was conducted as a way to minimize sediment entry into the lower Ventura River for the benefit of Southern steelhead trout inhabiting the Ventura River and to provide long term stability to the floodplain of the Ventura River. Due to significant damage caused by coyotes and other small mammals, it is necessary to install an irrigation system that is less susceptible to failure due to chewing animals and increase the depth and extent of the mulch cover to reduce weeds and the amount of time required for weeding non-native invasive weeds.
