Description

Worked with US Forest Service and Sawtooth National Recreational Area to conduct a watershed assessment and possible feasibility plan. Bull trout and cutthroat trout are believed to utilize habitats within mainstem Slate Creek. Chinook were historically present, but doubtful under current conditions. No species is considered to be strong following flood/debris flow which substantially altered mainstem and headwater tributaries. Water temperatures likely elevated and altered due to debris flow and irrigation withdrawals. Landslide and flood exposed and deposited miles of sediments within the floodplain of the mainstem and headwater tributaries. Most woody debris swept downstream and accumulated at constrictions. Tailings pipe remains exposed and presents a persistent threat to water quality. Stream bank stability altered due to flood, grazing, and agricultural developments. Riparian habitat and watershed integrity thought to be moderate.

Project Benefit

Salmonid habitat including spawning, rearing, migration, and holding habitat will be improved, expanded, and connected.
