Physical and Biological Monitoring of HVR Tributaries

.Permanent channel cross sections and sediment sampling sites were established in index reaches of Tish Tang Creek (2005), and the mouths of several Reservation streams were surveyed with total station (2005-2006) to topographically document delta formation. Topography was documented primarily to assess fish passage to spawning channels. Sediment samples were processed to assess spawning habitat quality. Reservation streams provide spawning and rearing habitat for SONCC ESU coho salmon, chinook salmon, and Klamath Mountain Province steelhead trout.

Long-term monitoring of index reaches will aid in determining whether or not these streams are recovering from past disturbances, and may help assess currently practiced land management techniques. The results of these surveys will also aid in prioritization of rehabilitation efforts aimed at restoring populations of naturally spawning endemic salmonid populations ( SONCC ESU coho salmon, chinook salmon, and Klamath Mountain Province steelhead trout).
