Description

Funding provided through this project provides for Tribal participation in regional and local sub-basin planning and assessment activities, watershed planning, salmon recovery planning and coordination activities, and participation in regional technical and planning forums necessary to successful salmon recovery efforts in the Upper Columbia. Using funds provided through this project Colville Tribal representatives have participated in planning, coordination and assessment activities that have direct impacts on the recovery of Okanogan River summer Chinook, Upper Columbia ESU summer steelhead, spring Chinook and sockeye salmon. A number of these processes have resulted in planning documents, development of measureable goals and objectives, and/or reports.

Without this funding source the Colville Tribes ability to participate in these many different assessment, planning and coordination processes would be significantly curtailed. Specific forums and planning activities the Colville Tribes representatives participated in using FY03 PCSRF iinclude: the Upper Columbia Salmon Recovery Board, Okanogan Subbasin Planning, Upper Columbia Regional Technical Team, Okanogan Tonasket Irrigtion District Joint Committee, Interior Columbia Technical Review Team, Pacific Northwest Aqwuatic Monitoring Partnership, ongoing Mid-Columbia HCP coordination, U.S. v. Oregon discussions, and ongoing coordination with Canadian First Nations in the Okanogan subbasin and with relevant Canadian agencies.

This project also includes funding for administrative support necessary to implement PCSRF. Activities completed using these funds include: completion of necessary applications, completion of semi-annual and annual reporting, compiling records associated with individual projects, and coordinating with Colville Tribes staff and subcontractors.

Objectives 1 and 2 have been completed. Objective 3- A budget modification is being requested to continue coverage of NWPCC, CBFWA, Mid Columbia HCP, and Grant County PRCC forums related to salmon recovery in the Upper Columbia region.
