Description

The property was appraised, negotiations with land owners completed, and final purchase was completed in early 2003. The 2.1-acre site includes approximately one-tenth of a mile of low-bank riparian habitat on Okanogan River. The riparian zone includes a mix of both native and non-native vegetation. Use of the Omak Creek reach adjacent to this site by Okanogan River summer steelhead for migration and rearing is documented. An assessment of need the need for riparian enhancements and weed control was completed. Noxious weed control measures were applied. Native vegetation was planted on site. All necessary permitting and ESA consultation was completed.

Project Benefit

Project will protect important salmonid rearing and migration habitat in lower Omak Creek and along Okanogan River.
