Description

We began by identifying segments of Beaver Creek, Badger Creek and the Warm Springs River that were in need of salmon/riparian habitat restoration and protection. We also identified locations along an existing community trail where interpretive signs for public environmental education can be placed. Habitat restoration actions followed, including riparian vegetation restoration, riparian fence additions, and streambank stabilization. Interpretive signs were also developed and placed along the community trail to enhance tribal awareness of the importance of healthy riparian habitat and natural stream processes and functions and community impacts.

Project Benefit

Restore natural stream channel form and function, restore and improve floodplain connection and function, and enhance tribal public awareness about natural stream processes and functions and community impacts.

Success will be determined primarily through photo monitoring on an annual basis for ten years to document riparian vegetation recovery. Also, information on channel profile such as channel width/depth ratio will be monitored with cross sections. Water temperature and spawning habitat quality will also be monitored. Monitoring will be performed by CTWS Natural Resources fish biologists.
