Description
Helicopter services were contracted out to install 175 whole trees to the Iskuulpa and Buckaroo creek floodplains. Large wood frequency in reaches 4-5 of buckaroo creek (1.6 mi.) was increased from 8 pieces of large wood/mile to a minimum avg. 23.5 per mile. In reaches 3-5 of Iskuulpa Creek (6.93 mi.), large wood frequency was increased from 4/mile to a minimum of 18.3/mile. The trees will provide an immediate roughness element in the channel that will create localized areas of reduced stream flow energy, provide areas of fine sediment accumulation and retention, and subsequent riparian shrub, hardwood, and coniferous tree development.
Project Benefit
Improve threatened summer steelhead rearing success.
